Red Wolves Rout Radford in Second Round of WNIT

Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – Arkansas State (25-9, 13-4 SBC) pushed the tempo early against Radford (23-12, 12-4 BSC) with Wynter Rogers totaling 17 points and 10 rebounds in the 31-point victory Monday evening at First National Bank Arena.

A-State shot 43 percent from the field (32-of-74) compared to the Highlanders’ 34 percent (17-of-50) and outrebounded Radford 43 to 37. The Red Wolves forced 23 turnovers, with 12 steals to score 22 points off turnovers.

A flurry of early layups from Arkansas State gave the home team a 6-0 lead, with Wynter Rogers scoring six points in the first quarter, matching Radford’s entire first quarter total. The Red Wolves couldn’t hit their threes, but they didn’t miss it, scoring 12 of their 16 first quarter points in the paint.

Rogers tallied an even eight points and five boards in the first half, and nine points and five boards in the second half on the way to tie her career-high in points. Zyion Shannon unleashed 15 of her 17 points in the second half, and Mia Tarver logged 10 points of her own.

A-State hit a flow state with seven different players scoring and the team hitting 10 of their 15 shots, including five of their seven threes. Arkansas State forced Radford into 12 first half turnovers and held them to just 26 percent shooting. Crislyn Rose netted five points in the final three minutes, coupled with a triple from Mia Tarver to give Arkansas State the 42-22 lead at the midpoint break.

Radford bit into the lead coming out of half, bringing the deficit down to 11 halfway through the third quarter, but the Red Wolves turned up the scoring, letting off a 12-4 run to close the quarter by way of another half dozen points from Rogers.

The Red Wolves cranked it up to another level, only allowing eight total points for the Highlanders in the fourth quarter, and holding them scoreless across the final four minutes. A 14-2 run in the last six minutes put Radford to bed, with the final five points coming from Shannon.
