Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The City of Jonesboro bid farewell to a long-time employee at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

Ronnie Shaver, the city’s director of building maintenance, was honored with a formal proclamation of appreciation ahead of his retirement, capping off a 24-year career.

Shaver began his tenure with the city on March 20, 2002. Over more than two decades, the United States Marine Corps veteran served under four different mayors and worked across five departments before stepping into his final leadership role.

As director, Shaver was responsible for overseeing the upkeep, maintenance, functionality of more than 50 city properties, including the Municipal Center.

During the presentation, Mayor Harold Copenhaver praised Shaver’s commitment to the city’s infrastructure and its employees.

“Whether serving his community as a city employee or his nation as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Ronnie’s approach to service has been defined by dedication and passion for doing things the right way,” the mayor said while reading from a prepared proclamation.

Shaver, who was noted for constantly deflecting praise and crediting his building maintenance staff, was joined at the presentation by his family, including his wife, Teresa, his daughter, Molly, and his mother.

The presentation concluded with a standing ovation from the council chambers and a final note of gratitude from Mayor Copenhaver.

“We’re a better city because of people like Ronnie Shaver. Period,” the mayor said.

With Shaver’s departure, chief building inspector Tim Renshaw has accepted the internal appointment to take over the building maintenance director position starting next week.
