Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The Salvation Army of Jonesboro will be reopening its overnight warming shelter beginning Sunday, with temperatures forecasted to plunge below freezing.

The organization posted on Facebook that the shelter will open Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m.

It is housed in the Salvation Army of Jonesboro’s chapel, which is located at 125 S. Fisher St., across from its administration building. Each day the shelter is open, it will open at 4 p.m. and a hot meal will be served at 5 p.m. in the administration building.

The post said the shelter is on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations could not be made.

Capt. Charles Smith, one of the commanding officers of the Salvation Army of Jonesboro, told JRN the shelter opens when temperatures are projected to fall below 32 degrees and will close when temperatures rise above freezing.

The shelter houses 14 men and eight women, he said. Smith added that this is to “help those that do not have a substantial place to stay.”

According to the National Weather Service, in Jonesboro, skies on Sunday will be mostly clear with a high temperature around 26 degrees, and the low around 15 degrees.
