San Marcos, TX – Contributed – Arkansas State (21-7, 12-3 SBC) took the early lead and built on it throughout the game to beat Texas State (11-15, 7-8 SBC) Wednesday evening at Strahan Arena.

Arkansas State landed 39 percent of their field goals (26-of-66) and made 36 percent from three (14-of-39). The Bobcats went 45 percent from the field (22-of-49) and only made 25 percent beyond the arc (2-of-8).

Zyion Shannon led A-State with 22 points, making four threes, and also led the team with five steals. Marlie Dickerson and Mimi McCollister also scored double digits, hitting 13 and 10, respectively.

The Red Wolves took control early, pushing an 11-3 lead just three minutes into the game. A-State landed five threes in the first quarter from four different players, up 26-13.

The second quarter saw similar action, with three of the Red Wolves’ first four field goals going in beyond the arc in the first 2:30 of the frame, including back-to-back threes from Shannon. Shannon finished the half with 18 points, hitting six of her seven shots and all four from deep. A late push from the Bobcats was quelled by back-to-back threes from Dickerson and Ruddock, the Red Wolves entering the locker room at half up 54-33.

Arkansas State was held scoreless for the first six minutes exiting half, the Red Wolves only scoring 10 points in the quarter. Texas State was only able to find 12 points of their own in the quarter, only finding four in the final five minutes of the half.

Texas State looked to pare away the lead, slowly accumulating points in the fourth quarter as the Red Wolves drained the clock. A five-point set for A-State was executed on a Bella Weary triple, followed by a Yves Cox layup off a Texas State turnover. The Bobcats scored seven points across the last three minutes to settle the final score at 75-61.

Arkansas State continues the road stretch at Louisiana on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats can be found at astateredwolves.com/stats.
