UPDATE: Shots Fired At Judge’s Home, Search Underway


UPDATE, 4:15pm: Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder confirms his department has developed a “person of interest” in connection with Friday night’s shooting on Greenfield Road but says “an arrest has not been made yet. I will issue a release soon.”

UPDATE, 10:05am:  The man responsible for threatening and shooting at District Judge Ron Hunter and several Poinsett County deputies Friday night is still at large. Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder says “Tips are coming in. Nothing concrete yet, but some are promising.”

Poinsett County, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – August 24, 2024 – Police are searching an area just south of the Craighead/Poinsett County line for a man who fired shots at a district judge’s home Friday night.

Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder says his department received a call from Poinsett County District Judge Ron Hunter around 7:30pm Friday night reporting that an unidentified man was threatening him on his property near Greenfield Road. The road runs East-West between Highway 1 and Highway 163 about five miles south of the Craighead/Poinsett County line.

About an hour later Hunter’s wife called 911 and reported that shots had been fired into their home. A deputy sheriff responded and white he and Hunter were outside talking shots were fired at them. Additional deputies were dispatched. As the responding deputies approached, the individual redirected their fire toward the responding officers.

Poinsett County Sheriff’s deputies along with officers from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, Harrisburg Police Department, Jonesboro Police Department, and Arkansas State Police mobilized to search for the suspect, utilizing all available resources, including three drones. As of 7:30am Saturday morning the suspect has not been located.

Molder says he is asking the public for assistance. “If you observed anyone behaving suspiciously or walking in the area of Greenfield Road, Harrisburg, AR after 7:30 Friday evening please contact (870) 578-2116 and request to speak with a Deputy Sheriff.”
