UPDATE 1:15 A.M.:

The tornado warning for southwestern Craighead and northeastern Poinsett counties has expired due to the tornado threat diminishing. A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the area.

UPDATE 12:54 A.M.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for southeastern Craighead County and northeastern Poinsett County until 1:15 a.m.

According to the NWS, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located eight miles south of Jonesboro, moving east at 35 mph. This is radar indicated rotation.

Impacted locations include Jonesboro, Trumann, Marked Tree, Lepanto, Bay, Caraway, Greenfield, Payneway, Hergett, Apt, Tulot, Valley View, Hatchie Coon, Gum Point, Dub, Maple Grove, Promised Land, Alto, Cary, and Judd Hill.

The NWS said flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter, and damage to roofs, vehicles and windows will occur. Take shelter now.

UPDATE 12:39 A.M.:

The NWS has cancelled the tornado warning. Large hail and damaging winds remain a threat. A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the area.

Craighead County, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Craighead County.

The warning is in effect for southwestern Craighead County until 1 a.m. It is also in effect for northwestern Poinsett County.

“At 12:26 AM CDT, a confirmed tornado was located near Grubbs, or 15 miles east of Newport, moving east at 55 mph,” the NWS said.

This is radar indicated rotation.

Impacted locations include: Jonesboro, Trumann, Harrisburg, Bay, Weiner, Cash, Greenfield, Hergett, Apt, Valley View, Gum Point, Promised Land, Uno, Cary, Pitts, Landers, Davis Spur, Risher, Gilkerson, and Whitaker.

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely,” the NWS said. “To repeat, a tornado is on the ground. TAKE COVER NOW!”
