The announcement comes with the arrival of Interventional Neurologist Bhageeradh “Bhagee” Mulpur, M.D. to St. Bernards. Mulpur joins Dr. Nicolas Khattar, St. Bernards’ Medical Director of Neurointervention, after they trained together in neuroendovascular surgery at Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis.

Together, they will perform procedures in the neurointerventional suite at St. Bernards Medical Center, which opened in January 2026.

“I am thrilled to have Dr. Mulpur here at St. Bernards. We share a passion for the highest level of patient care, and his arrival means that we are now able to provide world-class neurointerventional services 24/7 right here in Northeast Arkansas,” Khattar said.

In the neurointerventional suite, physicians use a specialized imaging system to produce highly detailed, real-time images of blood vessels in the brain. These images are considered the “gold standard,” providing doctors with the ability to clearly view and locate blood clots in the tiny vessels of the brain for more precise treatment.

They also allow doctors to treat patients more quickly and restore blood flow to the brain sooner, preventing further damage if patients were transferred to hospitals miles away.

Specifically, 24/7 coverage at St. Bernards means:

  • Patients experiencing a stroke can receive advanced treatment at St. Bernards Medical Center at any hour, without transfer to a larger city like Little Rock, Memphis or St. Louis.
  • A specialized physician is always available to perform time-sensitive procedures like mechanical thrombectomies, brain aneurysm treatments and carotid stenting.

Mulpur is trained in both neuroendovascular surgery and vascular neurology. He evaluates and manages acute ischemic stroke, brain aneurysms, cerebrovascular traumatic injuries, arteriovenous fistulas, intracranial hypertension, and intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic disease. He also focuses on stroke prevention strategies.

A native of Huntsville, AL, Mulpur earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine before completing an Internal Medicine internship and Adult Neurology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

He then completed a Vascular Neurology fellowship at Jackson Health System/University of Miami Health System and a Neuroendovascular Surgery fellowship at Semmes Murphey Clinic in Memphis, where he trained alongside and co-authored numerous research papers with Khattar. Mulpur most recently practiced as a Neurologist and Neurointerventionalist at Huntsville Hospital.

Mulpur is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Neurology and Vascular Neurology. He is widely published appearing in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, the Journal of Neurosurgery, the Journal of Neurology and the American Journal of Neuroradiology, among others.

Mulpur is fluent in three languages, including English, Spanish and Telugu, and he has a longstanding interest in international and global health.
