Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – Auditor of State Dennis Milligan hosted a mobile office in Jonesboro Wednesday and located more than $250,000 in unclaimed property for local businesses and citizens.

“What a great day to be in northeast Arkansas. My team in Little Rock has worked countless hours searching through our database to be able to find a quarter of a million dollars for this area of our great state,” Milligan said.

At least 65% of the $250,000 located Wednesday is owed to private citizens, with the remainder owed to local businesses in the area, Milligan said. That amount does not represent the final figure of what is owed in Jonesboro and surrounding areas, he added.

“We have more than $600 million in the Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt that I’m trying to return to Arkansans,” Milligan said. “I encourage people to check our website at claimitar.gov to see if they or someone they know has money to claim.”

Unclaimed property can be any financial asset that has been deemed abandoned and returned to the state auditor’s office, such as forgotten checking or savings accounts, utility deposit refunds, life insurance proceeds, etc. It can also include shares of stocks and tangible items from safe deposit boxes.
