Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of all charges. According to police, he broke into a home, assaulted a victim, and resisted arrest during another attempted burglary.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause on May 18 to charge 29-year-old Jose Barron with the following offenses:

• Two counts of aggravated residential burglary (Class Y felony)
• First-degree criminal mischief/property of another with a value of over $1,000 but $5,000 or less (Class D felony)
• Possession of meth or cocaine less than two grams (Class D felony)
• First-degree criminal mischief/property of another with a value of $1,000 or less (Class A misdemeanor)
• Resisting arrest – refusal to submit to arrest/active or passive refusal (Class B misdemeanor)
• Second-degree assault/reckless conduct creates risk of physical injury (Class B misdemeanor)
• Fleeing (Class C misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 7, Jonesboro police officers responded to a Rogers Street home for an ongoing residential burglary. There, they met a victim armed with a knife in the middle of the street. She explained that Barron forced his way into the home and assaulted her over issues with his vehicle being sold and parked at the home while he was in jail.

The victim told officers that Barron chased her into a bedroom where he attempted to punch her several times. The victim escaped with a friend’s help and ran outside. Barron damaged several items inside the home as he broke through two bedroom walls. Then he broke a window to escape, cutting himself and leaving blood on the window seal.

As officers searched for Barron, dispatch advised of a second burglary in progress at an apartment on Calion Street. Officers met with the homeowner there, who was holding a door closed to prevent Barron from going in further. Officers ordered the homeowner to exit as Barron was seen walking immediately toward the officers at the front door.

Barron refused to obey the officer’s instructions to get on the ground. He was subsequently tased and placed in handcuffs. Police noted Barron was bleeding heavily with severe cuts to his arms. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

After treating Barron, officers inspected the apartment. They noted that the locking mechanism to the window, which Barron was trapped in by the homeowner, was forced open with “heavy amounts of blood” found on the window seal.

The affidavit said that, due to Barron’s injuries, he was required to be transferred to another trauma center for treatment. Barron’s person and property were searched while at the hospital, and a folded citation with his name on it was found. Inside the citation was a white crystallized substance, which is suspected of being meth.

Barron was released from custody for his medical transfer. A warrant for his arrest was issued once medical treatment was completed.

On April 17, Barron was found in McAllen, TX, near the US/Mexican border, where he was arrested and taken to the Hidalgo County Jail for unrelated offenses. A hold was placed on Barron, and he was eventually taken to and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center on May 17.

In addition to the $100,000 bond, Barron was ordered to have no contact with both victims and wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Barron’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 26. If convicted on all charges, he faces life in prison and fines up to $25,000.
