Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept 3, 2024 – Although the City of Jonesboro has been using the CodeRed Emergency Alert System for some time, many people still find it confusing.

According to the City of Jonesboro website, the CodeRED Community Notification System is used by both the City and Craighead County to send automated alerts about weather, emergencies, and more.

The website provides a link to sign up for these alerts, as well as to download the CodeRED mobile app, available on both iOS and Android through the Apple Store and Google Play.

CodeRED is designed specifically for local public safety officials to notify residents and businesses about time-sensitive information and emergencies. The system sends out location-based alerts using GPS to ensure that you receive critical information relevant to your area, even if you’re traveling across different CodeRED communities.

The free CodeRED Mobile Alert App lets subscribers customize their alert preferences. It delivers detailed notifications via text or audio and features a user-friendly interface with an interactive map showing the warning area. You can also adjust your settings to receive only the types of alerts you care about.

If you opt to receive CodeRED phone calls, you can replay the message by pressing any key. If you miss the call, the system will leave a message on your answering machine or voicemail.

For emergencies, the caller ID will show 866-419-5000, and for non-emergencies, it will show 855-969-4636. However, local agencies might customize their caller ID to a local number.

The website emphasizes that CodeRED is a crucial tool for keeping residents informed and prepared for emergencies. The system is precise enough to target specific areas, so only those directly affected by an emergency will receive alerts.

Subscribers can get a variety of alerts, including information about chemical spills, viral outbreaks, evacuation notices, missing persons, boil water advisories, power outages, severe weather, and police activity.

If you’re not in the Jonesboro area, check your local government’s website or search for your city or county name plus “emergency notification” on Google. If you still can’t find it, your local agency may not use CodeRED.
