Tulsa, OK – Contributed – Sophomore infielder Lane Walton recorded three RBIs and crossed the plate twice to power Arkansas State baseball (12-5, 0-0 SBC) past Oral Roberts (7-8, 0-0 SUMMIT) in a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Chapman Park.

Walton recorded a 3-for-3 performance and drew a walk over four plate appearances, while Ashton Quiller ended the day with two RBIs. Dylan Farley made the start for A-State and posted 4.0 shutout innings.

Walton recorded a two-run home run in the opening frame and created a 2-0 advantage before a stalemate set in. Both sides accounted for four hits but would not reach the plate until the sixth.

The Sugar Land, Texas, native led off the top frame with a walk and advanced to second following a single from Evan Griffis. Aidan Houseworth reached first on a hit-by-pitch and loaded the bases before a two-out walk allowed Walton to cross the plate for a second time in the contest.

Walton struck again in the top of the seventh, batting in Cougar Cooke with a double down the right-field line. He would account for his fifth and final run in the contest following a throwing error at shortstop, creating a score of 5-0.

Quiller delivered the final blow to the Golden Eagles in the eighth inning by firing a two-run single up the middle. Tyler Weimer (2-0) entered the contest in relief of Farley to start the fifth inning, and limited the opposition to one hit and walk for the remainder of the game.

The sophomore right-hander closed the door on a potential comeback bid by retiring five of the final six batters faced, including a 1-2-3 frame in the bottom of the ninth. Weimer earned the win while Conner Johnson (0-1) took the loss.
