Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Wynne man is facing a felony theft charge after police said he failed to return a rental vehicle in Jonesboro despite multiple warnings.

On June 22, Jonesboro police officers responded to Enterprise Rent-A-Car on South Caraway Road for a theft involving a leased vehicle. An employee provided officers with documentation related to a lease agreement between the company and 46-year-old Christopher Joseph Reed, which specified that the vehicle was leased around 11:30 a.m. on June 3 and was due to be returned by June 5.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Enterprise also provided copies of records documenting multiple attempts to contact Reed regarding the return of the vehicle. Those attempts included telephone calls and mail notifications demanding the vehicle’s return. Despite this, the affidavit stated that Reed did not comply and that the vehicle remained in his possession beyond the agreed-upon return date.

“Based on the information provided, Reed has exercised unauthorized control over the property, depriving the owner,” the affidavit said.

On June 23, Reed was stopped by Wynne police officers while he was in the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

The following day, Reed appeared before District Judge David Boling. He found probable cause to charge Reed with one class C felony: Theft of lease/rented property.

Reed is being held on a $35,000 cash/surety bond awaiting his next court appearance on July 30. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
