Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – Youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered on March 21 to serve at the Helping Neighbors Food Pantry, assembling food packs for children and senior citizens in the local community.
Volunteers worked together to prepare and organize “kid packs” and “senior packs,” which are distributed through the pantry to support individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Sophia DeLucena, a senior at Jonesboro High School, shared her motivation for serving: “What I love most about serving is having opportunities to help people in my community and to share the light of Christ in everything I do.”
In addition to local service efforts, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is participating in a nationwide initiative known as America250. This effort aims to deliver 250 truckloads of food to 250 food banks across all 50 states in advance of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The America250 initiative, led by a nonpartisan congressional commission, invites Americans to commemorate the milestone through remembrance, reflection, and service.
As part of this initiative, two truckloads of food have already been delivered to food pantries in Lonoke and Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Helping Neighbors Food Pantry serves hundreds of families each week throughout the Craighead County area. As food insecurity continues to increase, the need for volunteers and donations remains critical. Community members are encouraged to support the pantry through service or by contributing food and monetary donations.
