Tornado or Gustnado? You Be The Judge

Yesterday’s storms kicked up their intensity as they passed East of Crowley’s Ridge.  Lots of hail and gusty wind reports across Cross County, Eastern Poinsett and Craighead counties, and Northern Mississippi County.

There were numerous reports of what people thought was a funnel cloud or tornado around Trumann and Bay.  The Weather Service has seen the pictures and video and believe that people saw wasn’t a tornado or funnel cloud, but a “gustnado” — dust being blown by the thunderstorm winds getting caught up in the storms “updraft” sucking the dust up into the storm making it “look” like a funnel cloud or tornado.

We found some of the images and video on social media.  What do you think?
